“I respect diversity in Spain”

Catalonia was one of the main topics during the Conference. Mr. Solomont insisted in american respect for diversity and assured that there are many parallelisms between Catalonia and the United States of America. He also shared his opinion regarding Catalonia´s Independence.

It´s not a secret that both Spain and the US are suffering one the worst economical crisis since 1929´s crash. Are the Governments doing enough to overcome this critical situation?

Though he had no connections whatsoever with Spain before being nominated Ambassador, Mr. Solomont is very enthusiastic about his present spanish experience. There are many goals to be accomplished during his stay in Spain, the most important one is to strengthen the relations between this country and The United States of America.

The American Ambassador to Spain and Andorra concluded the Conference without compromising words. Although he was very participative and polite, he answered students questions in a very formal and diplomatic way, trying to avoid any controversy. Funny answers and some personal anecdotes accompanied his speech.

The conference is over. It´s time to work!

After more than one hour answering questions and explaining the situation between Spain and USA, the Press Conference has concluded. Mr. Solomont explained his main goals as an Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, and talked about Afghanistan, Health Care, Soccer and the most diverse topics.

Mr. Solomont pointed out that Obama´s Administration is putting an enourmos effort to improve the American Government. He referred to Obama as “a change” not only to the United States, but also to its foreign affairs.

According to the Ambassador, Obama dealt with new electors during his campaign, most of them young and hispanic people. This probably helped him in his way to be elected President of the United States.

The Ambassador put special interest in talking about new technologies used during Obama´s Campaign, that help for an approach and interaction between electors and candidates.

At this moment he continues answering student´s questions.
